First we will quickly brush up on the basics of of copyright and other “intellectual property” rights, as well as what FOSS (=Free & Open Source Software) is.
What follows is an introduction into FOSS (= Free & Open Source Software) and a slightly deeper dive into the main categories of FOSS licenses, what they mean in different use cases (distribution vs SaaS), and what you need to heed when using FOSS.
From the practical perspective, we will demonstrate how to properly license your own code and equip it with the appropriate license and copyright related information.
At the end, we offer a quick insight into the practice that is “FOSS licensing / copyright compliance” as well as which standards and tools are used there.
